The original sin was thinking that any of us have more value than another. A wonderful poem from whisperandtheroar!
Adam’s rib
aches beneath my breast
titanium splinter
piercing my soul
constantly seeking
to penetrate my self-worth
deliver shame directly
to my bloodstream like a toxin
demands I atone
for eating the forbidden fruit
I still taste the crisp
sweet tart taste
of knowledge on my tongue
and will always
hunger
for more

I loved this one. Reminds me very much of John Milton’s Paradise Lost, when Eve ate the forbidden fruit. Has that same feeling. A thirst for being like God but also power and things she’d never felt. I think a lot of people try to put that shame & burden on her alone. But later I recall we looked at it and saw it was Adam’s job to help Eve and to care for her in a sense. He didn’t, he too made the choice, ate the fruit. So, in Milton’s epic anyways, it cannot be Eve’s burden alone. Although Adam later blaims her for it. Just a thought.

Interesting. I’ll have to give it a read. I know of Milton, but hadn’t gotten around to it yet.
