The sun’s rays have crested the horizon
My love dances in dew laden grass
I stand in the umbrage of the weeping willow
My breath a billowing cloud
My feet shuffle in the frost shadow
where the sun may never shine

Thank you. I have had the image of a frost shadow, which I observed years ago while walking my dog in the early morning hours, stuck in my head and finally got it out. I’m glad you liked it. Poetry is really unknown territory for me. I feel like I’m walking in a pitch-black room, hands outstretched, trying not to trip over anything when I’m writing poems. Does it ever get any easier?

That’s an interesting take, dad. It’s more of a connection between something I witnessed and its metaphorical connection to depression, of which I’m intimately familiar with.

I might be a bit of a sadist, but I love poems birthed out of depression. Never saw the point in dampering an exquisitely dark fettle. Great poem!

Love it. Poetry is special to everyone. It is an individual thing. We can all read the same poem and yet hear it in our heads and hearts a different way. Thats why I think the only true gage if a poem is good or not is if it made it to the readers thoughts and emotions or not.

I don’t know really, but basically I try to post at least twice a week and when I’m not posting I’m using the Reader to find stuff that moves me. I like other writer’s posts and I comment when I think I have something to add. That simple.

Im a sucker for nature imagery, so I really like this one. I think you do a really good job of setting the mood of the place but still keep the reader inquiring for more

I really did have fun writing this one. I’d witnessed an early morning frost that had turned to dew by the sun, except in the shadow of a blue spruce and it stuck with me.
